It is not in a cold or damp place like the instruction says to avoid. I have been using this for a month now and have found that mice walk in, eat the bait, then walk out completely unharmed. It is a very cool concept however what works on paper doesn't always translate to the real world.

I mentioned how easy making a smart trap would be and he replied I'm sure that has been done already. I don't put too many reviews up on Amazon, but I know the level of frustration that can be caused by rats and so I wanted to share this to perhaps save others some of the frustration.Ī college and I were talking one day about mice in our basement and I had mentioned how cool it would be if you knew if a mouse had been caught before forgetting to check that terrible "sewer" smell sets in. I put bananas in the trap and for two days it ate the bananas but did not get caught. Another very large rat (about 10 inches long not including the tail) was harder to catch. That one and another were caught quite easily. But a few weeks later we noticed more signs that another rat had come into our home. (I don't really like looking at dead rats, so I didn't even have to look at it.) I put the trap away after we caught the first large rat. Sure enough, it worked! I was able to dispose of the rat without touching it. I was going to go back to sleep but I noticed my phone said that about an hour before the trap had been filled. On a Saturday morning I woke around dawn. (I did get a little shock once when trying to arrange the bananas even with the batteries out). On the third day I put banana outside the trap, and 3 more pieces further in. I put banana and peanut butter in the trap and it was gone in the morning. The first few nights I put the trap out without turning it on. VICTOR VICTORY: Finally I got one of these Victor traps with the notification app for my cell phone. I looked at other DIY type on YouTube, like the large plastic bucket with water, but never got around to making them. Also I saw that the rats can jump up and the rat may not have long enough contact to die. The down side of the DIY ones I saw was that I think they could have perhaps hurt one of our cats since they were not enclosed. so I kept thinking I would get around to it. I saw on YouTube that I could make one of these electric traps myself. The other methods were cheaper and I'm "frugal". but I'm going to wait until after the snow is gone to do this).ĭIY & BEING CHEAP: There were a few reasons I did not buy this sooner. (I still need to do a more careful search to find out how they are getting in. YOUTUBE & WEB ADVICE: I watched hours of videos on youtube and found some web sites about roof rat infestations in mountain towns and tried to use all of the best methods that were suggested, but to no avail. The cats killed 2, but not the ones in the kitchen. > DOGS: We could hear them at night and they would scurry behind the stove or frige Out dogs would chase them and get antsy when they heard them, but didn't catch any. I tried to buy it on Amazon and a message came up during check-out that said it could not ship to my address. > POISON: Poison bait is not allowed in my state. > SONAR: We tried sonar rat repellants and put several of them around areas where we thought the rats might be. Once or twice they got the food bait without springing the traps. > SPRING TRAPS: I tried large plastic traps and traditional spring traps, but the rats did not even try to get the food off. > STICKY PAPER: I put out sticky paper and we'd find rat hair on the paper in the morning but no rat. I tried live metal cage traps, the kind that allows you to release the rat later. > LIVE CAGE: I was first thinking that I could catch the rat and let it go high in the mountains where it wouldn't bother people. One of the largest rats could eat half a banana, or half an apple. Apparently the rats chew through the hoses to get water.

We first became aware when our dishwasher stopped working and water leaked all over the floor. We moved to a mountain home and when the cold weather came rats began to come in from the cold.
